In the US, spirit houses are traditionally bought at Asian American grocery stores. They are mass produced from plastic component parts and sold as identical multiples. Through hand building, I drew on the intimacy of loss and built a spirit home for my deceased grandmother, drawing from traditional architecture of her hometown, Shantou.
